Why do we need a new playground?
The existing playground at Jaycee Park is more than 20 years old, and replacement parts have become difficult to source; in some cases, the parts are no longer in production. As pieces of equipment wear and cannot be repaired, the equipment must be dismantled to ensure a safe play environment. The current playground at Jaycee Park, which lacks any ADA amenities, continues to get smaller, further limiting play options.
What has been driving the improvements at Jaycee Park?
In 2013, utilizing tremendous public input, the Parks & Recreation Commission, Downtown Development Authority, and Planning Commission, with key support from the City Council, worked to create a master plan for Jaycee Park. Since that time, the plan has been the driving force behind each new project at the park, such as the improved boat launch, the addition of over 100 parking spaces along East River Street, the Universally Accessible splashpad, the interactive sound garden, connecting trail, 500+ seat performance shelter, butterfly garden, and permanent restrooms. Each of these amenities is ADA-compatible, if not fully ADA-compliant.
What are the next steps, and how can I help?
The city is actively fundraising to bring this one-of-a-kind, inclusive playground to Jaycee Park. With an ambitious but achievable goal to raise $1.2M by June 1, 2025, we will need all the community partners we can find! Click through our giving options below to learn more about donating to this exciting, community-impact project.

What is being planned?
The City of Grand Ledge is committed to providing inclusive, welcoming outdoor spaces for residents and visitors of all ages and abilities. With the growing popularity of Jaycee Park, the deteriorating condition of the existing playground provides an excellent opportunity to build a NEW structure suitable for everyone!
