[ARCHIVED] WINTER STORM WARNING - JAN. 12, 2024

PUBLIC NOTICE (3)

GRAND LEDGE, MI, January 12, 2024 — A winter storm warning had been issued by the National Weather Service. Travel is expected to be dangerous statewide today through Sunday, January 14. Blizzard conditions are anticipated with sustained winds between 30-40 mph, and wind chill temperatures near or below zero, beginning Sunday. All City Departments are preparing for snow removal and emergency services.

SNOW REMOVAL Although the odd-even, overnight parking ordinance remains in effect, we are asking the community to please refrain from parking vehicles on the street today through Sunday, January 14th for Public Services to effectively clear snow, snow drifts, and other dangerous road conditions.

The City has established tiered priorities for systematic snow removal, beginning with State trunk lines (M-43 & M-100) and major street routes (ie. Bridge, Jenne, Jefferson), then primary travel routes, including the Wide Walk, downtown sidewalks, and secondary and neighborhood routes. Residents outside city limits but in the greater Grand Ledge area should refer to protocols set forth by their designated county road commissions; Eaton County or Clinton County.

WARMING CENTERS We urge all residents to stay home and refrain from traveling except when critically necessary. Community rooms and the gymnasium within City Hall, located at 310 Greenwood Street, will be open to residents should an extended power outage occur. These areas are heated facilities with Wi-Fi and access to restrooms. To find additional warming centers near you, visit https://mi211.org/ and search “warming centers” or call 2-1-1.

RECYCLING CENTER The Grand Ledge Recycling center will be closed on Saturday, January 13th.

PREPAREDNESS AND SAFETY

  • If you are stranded without power, in a dangerous situation, or need additional support, please call 9-1-1.
  • Stay indoors if possible. If you must go out, wear layers to prevent loss of body heat and cover your mouth to protect your lungs from extreme cold.
  • Call family, friends, and neighbors who are at risk and may need additional assistance.
  • If travel is imperative, pack an emergency supply kit with essentials like salt or cat litter, jumper cables, a flashlight, a shovel, food, water, and blankets.

UPDATES The City will utilize GLAlerts, the City’s website: www.cityofgrandledge.com, and Facebook (@GrandLedgeGovernment) to notify residents of emergency center openings and other pertinent storm information. To sign up for GLAlerts and stay informed of emergencies, City updates, road closures, and more, text “GLAlerts” to the number, 67283.
