WE NEED YOUR INPUT FOR JAYCEE PARK PLAYGROUND PLANNING
How are plans for Grand Ledge city parks made?
Before any park plans are adopted, it is critical to understand the needs of the residents. In 2021, with tremendous community input and support from the Parks & Recreation Commission, the City of Grand Ledge developed the 2022-2026 Parks and Recreation Master Plan, a guide for planning and decision-making for all city parks with the overall goal of enhancing the quality of life for the community members and visitors to the City of Grand Ledge. The goals, objectives, and action items in the Parks and Recreation Master Plan are created with thoughtful consideration of public input, along with suggestions from City officials and other community stakeholders.
Back in 2013, the City, utilizing incredible community input, worked with Viridis Design Group to complete the Jaycee Park and Riverfront Master Plan to help visualize the transformation of Jaycee Park into an active, welcoming area to benefit residents and visitors. With wide, ongoing community support to make the plan a reality, many of the ideas proposed within the Jaycee Park plan have been implemented. The Jaycee Park plan was mentioned numerous times in the 2021 public input survey used to create the 2022-2026 Parks and Recreation Master Plan with 80% responding that the most important goal in the next 5 years is to “enhance existing park space”. Respondents mentioned numerous times that they would like to see better maintenance of playgrounds and update broken or unsafe equipment. Many K-12 students were surveyed with the majority wanting to see cleaner parks, improved playgrounds, and more trails.
